About Dr. Shelby Harris
In addition to my private practice in Tarrytown, NY, I am the Director of the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Program at the Sleep-Wake Disorders Center at Montefiore Medical Center. I hold a dual academic appointment as Assistant Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in both the Neurology and Psychiatry Departments and am board certified in Behavioral Sleep Medicine by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
I obtained my undergraduate degree with honors from Brown University and graduated with my doctorate in clinical psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University. I completed my predoctoral internship at Montefiore Medical Center where I trained in the Sleep-Wake Disorders Center and received advanced postdoctoral training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy for anxiety and depressive disorders.
Academically, I have published and presented research on the neuropsychological effects of insomnia in older adults as well as behavioral treatments for insomnia, parasomnias, narcolepsy, and excessive daytime sleepiness. Numerous hospitals and organizations have invited me to give grand rounds lectures and workshops. I currently supervise students from both the Montefiore Psychology Internship and the Sleep-Wake Disorders Center.
I am an invited columnist for the New York Times "Consults Blog", Dr. Oz's website "You Beauty", and Psychology Today and am frequently quoted in the media, including The New York Times "Well Blog", The Huffington Post, The New Yorker, Wall Street Journal, WebMD, Cosmopolitan and Fitness Magazines.
